Pickleball Americas: Referee Training Guide
Program Description:
The referee training program is structured to ensure that participants are well-versed in the rules and practical aspects of pickleball refereeing. The program includes:
1.) Pre-requisite Experience: All participants must have prior pickleball playing experience to ensure a fundamental understanding of the game.
2.) Preparatory Reading: Participants are required to thoroughly review the Rulebook and the Officiating Handbook before attending the ZOOM instructional sessions.
3.) Examination: An exam must be completed and passed by participants to demonstrate their comprehensive knowledge of the game's rules.
4.) ZOOM Instructional Sessions: Mandatory attendance at all three ZOOM sessions, each ranging from 1 to 1.5 hours, is required. The sessions cover:
- Session 1: Overview of the Referee Program, credentialing requirements, Referee Responsibilities, and the Code of Conduct.
- Session 2: Best Practices, including the basic skills of refereeing, procedures, and scripts (provided during the session).
- Session 3: Detailed guidance on using the Scoresheet, including marking and recording match details.
5.) On-Court Training: Following basic referee instruction, participants must complete on-court training at a location agreed upon by both the participant and the trainer.
6.) Visual Acuity Proof: Before participating in on-court training, participants must submit proof of visual acuity using the form provided.
7.) Certification: Participants who successfully complete the program will be awarded a GPF/PFA Referee Certificate, marking the first step towards becoming a skilled and confident referee. [Attach Certificate]
8.) Further Credentialing: Continued practice and gaining experience in officiating at tournaments are crucial for those looking to advance to higher credentialing levels (Level 1/Level 2).
9.) Training Rates:
- The trainee-to-trainer ratio is maintained at 5-6:1 to ensure personalized attention and feedback.
- The fee for a Certified Trainer to conduct two days of on-court training is $1,000.
- All arrangements for the training within the country must be coordinated by the training host.
